2 Ways To Take Care Of Your Tires

Do you know how your tire choices will affect your ability to stop during a rainstorm? I didn't used to think that these kinds of things mattered that much, but after carefully considering my options a few years ago, it really became clear that I needed to focus on choosing better wheels for my car. I was able to work with a tire professional to narrow down exactly what I needed, and within a few months, it was obvious how much of a difference it was making. This blog is all about finding great tires that will work for your car.

Your tires are more than just the round rubber things on which your car runs. They are an integral part of your car's safety system, they can affect how comfortable your car rides, and how many miles of gas your car gets. Because of all of that, you want to make sure that you take care of your car's tires. There are several ways that you can make sure that your tires are in good shape and help them last longer.

Pennies

You may think that all those pennies in your pocket are worthless, but the fact is that they aren't. There are lots of things that you can use that penny for. One of them is to assess the tread on your tire. You need to make sure that you have enough tread on your tires because if your tires are bald, you are going to have a harder time steering and stopping. Think about your sneakers. When your sneakers have plenty of grip, then you have no problem with walking on wet or slippery surfaces. It's the same thing with your tires, tread gives them grip, which helps keep them on the road while you are driving. The way you can use a penny to check your tread is to put a penny in the tread with Honest Abe's head pointing down. Ideally, you don't want to see Abe's head. The more of his head you can see, the less tread you have. If you can see all of Abe's head, you need to replace your tires, since they are not as safe as they should be.

Air Pressure

You want to make sure that your tires have the right air pressure in them. How much air pressure depends on what kind of car you have as well as what kind of tires you have. You should check your tire's air pressure around once a month or so. The air pressure can vary depending on use, temperature, and even barometric pressure. The tool you need is generally pretty inexpensive, and you can just toss it in your glovebox to use when it's time to check your air pressure.

If you take care of your tires, they will last for a long time. There are easy ways to make sure that your tires are in good shape and to keep them in good shape for as long as possible.
